Dundee, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Dundee United climbed to second place in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday after knocking off Celtic, 2-1, at Tannadice Park.

After a yellow card to Dundee United's Nadir Ciftci in the first minute of the play, the home side kicked on and had the better of the play as Ciftci opened the scoring after just five minutes.

The teams went into the intermission scoreless and Dundee United doubled its advantage with 25 minutes remaining through a goal from Stuart Armstrong.

The defending champions pulled one back through Leigh Griffiths in the 88th minute to give the Hoops some hope late on, but they couldn't manage a late equalizer and suffered their third defeat of the league season.

Dundee United jumps to second place on 34 points with the result, and moves within four points of Celtic for the top spot.
