Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anaheim Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen will miss at least three games due to an upper-body injury he sustained on Sunday.
Andersen was forced to exit the Ducks' 5-3 loss at Tampa Bay in the third period when he was struck in the back of the head by the crossbar of a falling net. Anaheim has placed the 25-year-old Dane on injured reserve, meaning Andersen will not be eligible to play until the team's home game with the Lightning on Feb. 18 at the earliest.
Veteran Ilya Bryzgalov and rookie John Gibson will fill in during the absence of Andersen, who has compiled a 29-8-5 record with a solid 2.37 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage in 44 games this season for the Pacific Division-leading Ducks.
Gibson, who opened the 2014-15 campaign sharing duties with Andersen before injuring his groin and later being sent to the minors, was recalled from AHL Norfolk on Tuesday. The highly touted 21-year-old went 6-3-2 with a 2.07 GAA with the Admirals and had a 2.28 GAA in four NHL starts earlier this season.
