St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Different goalie, same result for the Minnesota Wild against the Colorado Avalanche.

Charlie Coyle scored a first-period goal and Devan Dubnyk made 18 saves as the Wild blanked the Avalanche 1-0 on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.

Dubnyk posted his second consecutive shutout and fourth overall with Minnesota since being acquired last month.

"That's a very skilled hockey team," Dubnyk said of the Avalanche.

The Wild, who have won five games in a row, have shut out the Avalanche in all three meetings this season. Darcy Kuemper made a combined 46 saves as Minnesota outscored Colorado 8-0 to sweep a home-and-home series to begin the season.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 28 shots, including 16 in a lopsided first period, for Colorado, which has failed to score a goal in back-to-back games. The Avalanche had a 3-0-1 stretch end with Thursday's 3-0 home loss to Detroit.

"I liked the way we regrouped after the first period," Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said.

If not for Varlamov's strong play, the Avalanche would have been staring at a bigger deficit.

Minnesota had a 17-4 shot advantage in the opening 20 minutes and it took a deflection to beat Varlamov. Coyle was in the low slot and tipped Marco Scandella's point shot past the Colorado netminder.

Game Notes

The Avalanche were 0-for-2 on the power play and have now gone 0-for-24 with the man advantage in their last eight games ... Colorado defenseman Tyson Barrie missed a second consecutive game with a hip injury.
