Dortmund, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Borussia Dortmund's ascent up the Bundesliga table continued on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Schalke at Signal Iduna Park in the latest edition of the Revierderby.
It's been a massive struggle for Jurgen Klopp's team in league play for most of the campaign as the club has been rooted to the bottom of the table for a significant chunk of time.
But it seems Dortmund is rounding into form just in time as Saturday's win is the club's fourth straight to move to 10th place.
It was a tight affair until the final quarter-hour and the home side finally broke the deadlock with 12 minutes to play as Pierre Emerick Aubameyang fired it past Schalke goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.
The hosts doubled the lead in the 79th minute through a goal from Henrik Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus wrapped up all three points with a goal four minutes from time.
With the win, Dortmund moves to within eight points of fourth-place Bayer Leverkusen for a Champions League qualification place.
Also in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Simon Rolfes' 33rd-minute tally handed Leverkusen a 1-0 win over Freiburg at the BayArena, while Christian Gentner and Lars Stindl traded goals as Hannover and Stuttgart played to a 1-1 draw at the AWD Arena.
Salomon Kalou scored two minutes from time to lift Hertha Berlin to a 1-0 victory against Augsburg, while Kevin Volland and Eugen Polanski scored second-half goals to power Hoffenheim to a 2-0 win against Mainz.
In Saturday's final Bundesliga fixture, Alexander Meier netted a pair of goals to lift Eintracht to a 2-1 win over Hamburg.
