Landon Donovan scored the only goal of the contest just three minutes into the match and the Galaxy held on for a 1-0 result over Western Conference rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday at BC Place.

The result sees the Galaxy earn their third straight victory and move into second place in the West with 40 points from 25 matches, while Vancouver fell out of the playoff picture in sixth place with 36 points.

The lone tally was a stunning strike that seemed to catch the hosts off guard just two minutes in when Donovan jumped on a loose ball just outside the Whitecaps penalty area and ripped a wicked right-footed strike into the roof of the net, leaving Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted with no chance for a save.

The hosts put 12 attempts toward goal and five on frame, but Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo made five saves to keep the clean sheet and preserve three points for his side.
