Second-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov was a second-round upset victim Wednesday at the Grand Prix Hassan II tennis event.

Italian Flavio Cipolla subdued the Ukrainian Dolgopolov 6-4, 6-1 on the red clay at Complexe Sportif al Amal.

Another upset came when Russian Igor Andreev overcame fourth-seeded Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-2.

In other second-round play, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez doused France's Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-4, 6-2 and Frenchman Benoit Paire fought back to beat German Matthias Bachinger 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-2. The oft-injured Mathieu titled here back in 2007. Garcia-Lopez will tangle with Andreev, while Paire will take on Cipolla in Friday's quarterfinals.

Top-seeded German Florian Mayer, reigning Casablanca champion Pablo Andujar of Spain and 2010 runner-up Victor Hanescu of Romania will all see second-round action here on Thursday. Andujar will meet Italian Potito Starace in a rematch of last year's finale, which was won by the Spaniard.

The winner of this $522,000 tournament will collect $71,900.
