Dodgers add McGowan; Beachy to 60-day DL

Glendale, AZ ( - The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed pitcher Dustin McGowan to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

To open a spot on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers placed pitcher Brandon Beachy on the 60-day disabled list. Beachy signed with Los Angeles over the weekend and is still recovering from his second Tommy John surgery.

McGowan had spent his entire career with the Toronto Blue Jays and has a record of 25-27 with a 4.57 ERA in 158 games, including 68 starts. Numerous shoulder problems have forced him to miss three full seasons since making his big league debut in 2005.

The 32-year-old right-hander was 5-3 with a 4.17 ERA in 53 games last year. He began the year in Toronto's starting rotation and was 2-2 with a 5.08 ERA in eight starts before being moved to the bullpen, where he pitched to a 3.35 ERA and held opponents to a .215 batting average in 45 appearances.

McGowan was selected by Toronto with the 33rd overall pick of the 2000 draft.
