Dick LeBeau joins Titans as assistant head coach

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tennessee Titans have hired Dick LeBeau as their assistant head coach/defense.

LeBeau will be in charge of the defense and defensive coordinator Ray Horton will work with him to implement it.

The 77-year-old LeBeau spent the past 11 seasons as the Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive coordinator. He helped the Steelers win two Super Bowls following the 2005 and '08 seasons.

"This is a unique opportunity to add someone like Dick to our coaching staff," said Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt. "He is a proven commodity in this league and great teacher. One of his greatest assets is the rare ability to relate to all different kinds of players and get the most of them. We had a lot of success together in Pittsburgh and I am looking forward to working together again."

LeBeau has been a coach in the NFL in some capacity ever since his Hall-of- Fame playing career with the Lions ended in 1972. He was the Bengals' head coach from 2000-02 and compiled a 12-33 record.

The Titans also elevated Mike Mularkey to assistant head coach/tight ends. To complete the staff, Jason Tucker was added as the assistant wide receivers coach.
