Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels has thrown the first no-hitter of his career.
The ace allowed two walks against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon, but that was the extent of the damage.
Hamels struck out 13 in what might be his final start for the Phillies. He has been the subject of much trade speculation ahead of the July 31 nonwaiver deadline. Ironically, the Cubs have been mentioned among his possible suitors.
His performance also silenced questions about his health and effectiveness. In his previous two outings, Hamels allowed 20 hits and 14 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.
Hamels' is the third no-hitter in the majors this season.
