Davis, Chiefs roll past Raiders

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Knile Davis scored two touchdowns and the Kansas City Chiefs avenged a Week 12 loss with a 31-13 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Davis caught a 70-yard touchdown pass and also had a 3-yard rushing score, while Travis Kelce caught five passes for 59 yards and a touchdown for the Chiefs (8-6), who ended a three-game skid which began with a 24-20 loss to the Raiders on Nov. 20.

"We didn't have as much juice then as we did today," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said of the previous loss. "It was a good win."

Alex Smith completed 18-of-30 passes for a season-high 297 yards and two touchdowns, Jamaal Charles carried the ball 12 times for 52 yards and Dwayne Bowe and Albert Wilson each finished with three catches for 69 yards in the win.

Derek Carr threw for 222 yards and a score on 27-of-56 passing, James Jones caught a short TD pass and Sebastian Janikowski made two field goals for Oakland (2-12), which has dropped two of its last three games.

"The bottom line is we need to score touchdowns when we get in the red area," Raiders head coach Tony Sparano said. "You can't do the things that we did in the second half of this football game to win a game like this on the road against a good team."

The Chiefs extended their lead to 17-6 with 6:46 remaining in the third quarter. Bowe hauled in a 21-yard pass and a roughing the passer call moved Kansas City to Oakland's 32. After two more first downs, Davis bounced off a hit and plowed into the end zone from three yards out.

Frank Zombo recovered Carr's fumbled snap and the Kansas City offense took over at the Oakland 21. On the next play, Kelce made a catch on the right side of the field, cut towards the middle and fought off a leaping defender at the goal line for a 20-yard score and a 24-6 lead with 5:50 to play in the third.

On Kansas City's ensuing drive, Smith was sacked for a 2-yard loss on second down, but Davis raced 70 yards down the field after catching a short pass for a 31-6 lead.

Carr drove the Raiders to Kansas City's 32-yard line midway through the fourth, but Brice Butler was stopped two yards shy on fourth down, resulting in a turnover on downs.

After Cairo Santos missed a 47-yard field goal, Carr drove the Raiders 63 yards down the field. The rookie signal-caller's pass to Jones from a yard out with 37 seconds remaining accounted for the final score.

The Raiders caught a break on what could've been a disastrous play in the first. Carr's pass bounced off Latavius Murray and into the hands of defensive end Jaye Howard, who was unable to hold on to the ball at the Oakland 20.

Kansas City, however, didn't wait too long after to get on the board as De'Anthony Thomas returned Marquette King's ensuing punt 81 yards for a touchdown with 2:38 remaining in the first quarter.

Early in the second, Kelce's 16-yard catch moved the Chiefs into Raiders territory. Frankie Hammond picked up another first down on a 7-yard catch, but Smith's scramble on third down was a yard short. Kansas City elected to send out the field goal unit, and Santos' 44-yard try steered wide left.

After another Oakland punt, Smith aired out a 48-yard bomb to Wilson to move the Chiefs down to the Raiders 29 and Santos was true from 41 yards out for a 10-0 lead with 8:01 left in the second.

Janikowski put the Raiders on the board with a 53-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to make it 10-3 at halftime.

Smith completed a 3-yard pass to Kelce, but he was hit and the ball popped out and into the hands of C.J. Wilson, who took the ball down to the Chiefs 15. Oakland just gained one yard on the drive, but Janikowski made it a 10-6 game by splitting the uprights from 33 yards out early in the third.

Carr became the sixth rookie in NFL history and fifth in franchise history ever to reach 300 completions in a season ... Bowe became the third player in franchise history to record 7,000 yards. Tight end Tony Gonzalez (10,940) and wide receiver Otis Taylor (7,306) also accomplished this feat ... The Chiefs' 21 points in the third was the most they have scored in a quarter this season ... Thomas registered his first career punt return ... The Chiefs are now 34-17 against the Raiders dating back to 1990 ... Kansas City's defense has not allowed a 300-yard passer this season ...
