(SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Hammel tries to keep his career mark against the Brewers unblemished when the Chicago Cubs play Milwaukee Saturday afternoon at Miller Park in the second of three straight meetings.
Hammel is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA in five all-time starts versus Milwaukee. That includes a 2-0 ledger with a 1.83 ERA in three contests at Miller Park.
On Sunday, Hammel gave up three hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings of a 4-3 loss at San Diego. He has just one victory over his last five starts (1-2). His last road win came at Miller Park on April 27 when he tossed seven- plus shutout frames against today's Milwaukee starter, Wily Peralta.
During the 4-0 loss for the Brewers, Peralta surrendered eight hits and three runs in seven frames. The right-hander is 0-3 over his last four starts and hasn't won since May 2 at Cincinnati. A week ago, Peralta suffered a loss at Miami despite allowing only a run over six innings.
In six career games against the Cubs, Peralta is 2-3 with a 3.22 ERA.
Last night, Ryan Braun belted a two-run homer, his first at Miller Park in over a year, to spark Milwaukee's five-run first inning and the Brewers routed the Cubs, 11-5.
Braun finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Rickie Weeks collected three hits, two RBI and three runs scored for the Brewers, who have won three straight games.
Martin Maldonado and Jean Segura also supplied three hits apiece in support of starter Marco Estrada (5-2), who allowed three runs on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts over six innings to pick up the win.
Travis Wood (5-5) was shelled for seven runs on 10 hits in just 2 2/3 frames to absorb the loss.
"They hit everything I threw up there. It didn't matter what I threw. They got to me early," Wood said.
Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the Cubs, who have lost three straight games.
The Brewers have had at least 10 hits in nine straight games, which ties a franchise record set in 1983 and matched in 2011.
Milwaukee leads the season series, 4-3.
