The Chicago Cubs on Wednesday claimed infielder Luis Valbuena off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old Valbuena played in just 17 games with Cleveland last season, but boasts a .226 batting average with 13 home runs and 57 runs batted in over 229 contests with the Seattle Mariners and Indians over four major league seasons.

To make room for Valbuena on the 25-man roster, Chicago outrighted pitcher Frankie De La Cruz to Triple-A Iowa of the Pacific Coast League.
