Cubs activate Fujikawa from 15-day DL

The Chicago Cubs activated pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

Shortly after becoming the team's closer, Fujikawa complained of a muscular strain his right forearm and had been sidelined since April 13. The day before landing on the DL, Fujikawa surrendered three runs and blew the save in what turned out to be a 4-3 Cubs win over the San Francisco Giants.

Kevin Gregg has taken over the closer's role. He has recorded five saves and has yet to give up a run in 8 1/3 innings of work.

In two rehab games with Triple-A Iowa and Double-A Tennessee, Fujikawa tossed three scoreless innings of relief.

The 32-year-old right-hander, in his first major league season with Chicago, is 1-0 with two saves and a 12.46 ERA in five relief appearances.

Chicago opened a roster spot by optioning pitcher Rafael Dolis to Iowa.
