The Chicago Cubs have activated pitchers Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood off the 15-day disabled list.

Dempster, scheduled to start Thursday's series-finale against Cincinnati, last pitched on April 17 against Miami and had been sidelined with a strained right quad muscle. He entered the day with a record of 0-1 and a 1.33 earned run average in three starts this season.

Wood was out with right shoulder fatigue following his last appearance on April 13. He entered Thursday's action with a lofty 11.57 ERA and an 0-1 record in four relief outings.

The Cubs optioned pitchers Scott Maine and Randy Wells to Triple-A Iowa to clear space on the roster.

Maine was 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in five relief appearances after being recalled April 20 to fill Wood's roster spot. Wells was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in two starts for the Cubs following his recall on April 22.
