Guangzhou, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed Alize Cornet and Monica Niculescu were semifinal winners Friday and will meet for the title at the Guangzhou International Open tennis event.
The French Cornet bested Swiss Timea Bacsinszky 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) on the hardcourts at Guangzhou International Tennis Center.
The Romanian Niculescu cruised past wild card Wang Yafan of China 6-0, 6-2.
The 24-year-old Cornet will appear in her ninth career final, seeking a fifth title. She was a winner in Katowice, Poland, and runner-up in Dubai earlier this year.
The 26-year-old Niculescu is 1-2 in her career WTA finals, with her lone win coming in Brazil last year.
Saturday's champion will pocket $111,163.
