Corinthians became the third Brazilian club to win the FIFA Club World Cup, defeating English side Chelsea, 1-0, at the International Stadium on Sunday.

Chelsea had the better run of play in the first half but could not find the opening goal.

Jose Paolo Guerrero made the Blues pay for their wasteful showing, scoring in the 69th minute to see Corinthians take the lead.

Chelsea's fight back became even tougher in the 90th minute when Gary Cahill was handed a red card, but last season's European champions made a dramatic finish of the title match.

Fernando Torres thought he had pulled Chelsea level in the second minute of stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed after the Spaniard was ruled offside by the assistant referee.

Brazilian clubs have claimed a combined total of three FIFA Club World Cup titles, more than any other nation. Sao Paulo and Internacional opened the competition with back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

Mexican side Monterrey finished third in this season's competition, edging Egyptian side Al Ahly, 2-0, on Sunday behind goals from Jesus Manuel Corona and Cesar Delgado.
