Jarryd Hayne had quite the debut in his first preseason game.

Most notably, it was his 53-yard scamper and cutback into the secondary that raised eyebrows. But he also made defenders miss in his 33-yard kickoff return and two punt returns.

When talking about his playmaking ability, the coaching staff did not hesitate to praise Hayne.

"He has great lateral quickness and that's another characteristic of a great open-field runner," special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey said, via San Jose Mercury News. "If you look at all them, they all have that characteristic, a Donte Hall, a Devin Hester, Darren Sproles. They have great lateral quickness, and Jarryd has that."

For someone who has only seen action in one preseason game, that's high praise for the former rugby star.

It is the team's hope that Hayne continues to get better each week.

"He's got a long way to go, he's doing good things and hopefully he'll continue down that path," McGaughey said.
