Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Chelsea maintained its perfect start to the new Premier League season on Saturday as the Blues held on for a wild 6-3 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Chelsea got off the mark in just 34 seconds through Diego Costa and defender Branislav Ivanovic made it 2-0 two minutes later to stake the Blues to an early cushion.
Everton got back into the match in first-half stoppage time through Kevin Mirallas, who got on the end of a cross from Seamus Coleman to nod it into the bottom right corner.
But the visitors made it 3-1 in the 68th minute with a bit of luck as Costa got to the end line down the left wing and sent a cross into the box that took a deflection off Coleman and beat Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard to the near post.
Everton responded just minutes later as Steven Naismith galloped past two Chelsea defenders into the left side of the penalty area and ripped it past Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea then answered to restore the two-goal margin through Nemanja Matic, whose left-footed strike from the top of the box took a deflection and left Howard wrong-footed on his line.
New Everton signing Samuel Eto'o pulled a third goal back for the Toffees in the 76th minute, but it was again Chelsea who had the last laugh as Ramires and Costa hit for goals in the final 13 minutes to seal the points in a wild affair.
The result sees Chelsea go to the top of the table with nine points from three games, while Everton sits in 16th with two points.
Swansea City 3, West Bromwich 0
Swansea, Wales - Swansea City maintained its perfect start to the Premier League campaign on Saturday as the Swans rolled to a 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Liberty Stadium.
Nathan Dyer opened the scoring for the hosts after just two minutes and Wayne Routledge doubled the advantage after 24 minutes for a quick two-goal margin.
Dyer then completed his double with 19 minutes to play to wrap up an impressive three-point effort.
The Swans remain tied with Chelsea at the top of the table with nine points from their first three matches, while West Brom stays on two points from three games.
Southampton 3, West Ham 1
London, England - Morgan Schneiderlin netted on either side of the intermission on Saturday as Southampton claimed a 3-1 victory over West Ham United at Upton Park.
West Ham found the back of the net first through a tally from Mark Noble, but Schneiderlin hit for the equalizer on the stroke of halftime.
The Saints then seized control in the second half as Schneiderlin completed his double in the 68th minute and new signing Graziano Pelle put away the insurance goal seven minutes from time.
Newcastle 3, Crystal Palace 3
Newcastle, England - Wilfried Zaha scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time on Saturday to secure a point for Crystal Palace in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle United at St. James Park.
Palace got off to a flying start under new manager Neil Warnock as Dwight Gayle fired home just one minute into the contest, but new Magpies defender Daryl Janmaat equalized in the 37th minute.
Palace retook the lead in the 48th minute through Jason Puncheon, but Rolando Aarons and Michael Williamson hit for goals in the 73rd and 88th minutes to take a 3-2 lead, but Zaha provided the heroics late on to steal a point.
Stoke City 1, Manchester City 0
Manchester, England - Defending champions Manchester City stumbled to a 1-0 defeat at home against Stoke City on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.
City had opened their title defense with wins over Newcastle and Liverpool, but Stoke provided a challenge to Manuel Pellegrini's men and Mame Diouf gave Stoke the lead in the 58th minute.
Diouf collected a loose ball by the halfway line following a City corner kick and set sail down the middle of the pitch. He pushed it past his mark and fired it between the legs of City goalkeeper Joe Hart.
QPR 1, Sunderland 0
London, England - Newly-promoted Queens Park Rangers earned its first win of the season on Saturday after claiming a 1-0 result over Sunderland at Loftus Road.
The first two fixtures of the new season have not been kind to QPR as the club suffered defeats to Hull City and Tottenham, but Charlie Austin handed the Hoops an important three points when he converted off a corner kick to break a 315-minute scoreless drought.
Things turned in QPR's favor when Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone raced off his line to stop Matt Phillips and the ball took a deflection out of play for a corner kick.
Austin delivered well, ripping it into the roof of the net to seal the points for Harry Redknapp's side.
Burnley 0, Manchester United 0
Burnley, England - Life in the red half of Manchester continues to be bleak as Manchester United failed to break down a plucky Burnley side and was forced to settle for a scoreless draw on Saturday at Turf Moore.
After suffering an embarrassing 4-0 loss to MK Dons in the League Cup midweek, United was buoyed by the signing of Angel Di Maria, but Lois van Gaal's men could not break down Burnley's defense and are still searching for their first win under Van Gaal.
The result leaves United with two points from three league matches, while Burnley collects its first point of the season with the draw.
