CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Hornets have selected power forward Dwight Powell from Stanford with the 45th pick in the NBA draft.
The 6-foot-11 Powell averaged 14 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and was selected first-team All-Pac 12. Despite his size, he was not known as a great rebounder. However, he did lead Stanford with 1.3 steals per game.
Powell becomes the second power forward drafted by the Hornets, who are trying to get bigger this offseason.
Earlier, the Hornets selected power forward Noah Vonleh from Indiana at No. 9. Last year's starting power forward Josh McRoberts opted out of his contract.
Powell is only 235 pounds and may need to put on some weight to compete with bigger players at the NBA level.
