Reece Chamberlain scored a career-high 19 points and tied a career-best with six assists as Belmont avoided an upset with a 73-71 victory over Tennessee State Thursday night.

An 11-3 run pulled Tennessee State within two points, 67-65 with 2:46 to play. Chamberlain scored four points and J.J. Mann added two in the closing minutes to seal it for the Bruins.

Belmont (20-8, 11-2 Ohio Valley) has a two-game lead over Morehead State for the top spot in the East Division. Tennessee State (3-24, 2-11) remains in sixth place, nine games back of the Bruins.

Chamberlain was 7 of 10 from the field. Mann finished with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Craig Bradshaw added 10 points and four assists.

Patrick Miller scored 23 points and Jay Harris 19 to lead Tennessee State. M.J. Rhett added 10 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds.
