Celtic moved seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League table on Wednesday, grabbing a 2-0 win over Dundee FC at Dens Park.

Georgios Samaras put the Premier League leaders in pole position by the 15- minute mark when he bagged his third goal of the season.

Gary Hooper put the result beyond any doubt 20 minutes from time, scoring his eighth goal of the campaign to see the Hoops improve to 40 points through 19 games.

With Inverness needing a 66th-minute goal from Richie Foran to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw with St. Mirren on Wednesday, Celtic's lead over Terry Butcher's men extends to seven points with the Hoops still holding a game in hand.

Dundee remains bottom of the table on 12 points while St. Mirren improves to 21 points.

Also on Boxing Day, Kilmarnock received a 27th-minute penalty kick from Liam Kelly to earn a 1-0 win over Hearts, Richard Brittain scored the lone goal in Ross County's 1-0 defeat of Hibernian, Brian McLean's own goal canceled out Gavin Gunning's early strike in Dundee United's 1-1 draw with St. Johnstone, and Jamie Murphy's brace helped Motherwell get back in the win column with a 4-1 thumping of Aberdeen at Fir Park.
