Jeff Skinner of the Carolina Hurricanes became the eighth player in NHL history to score 30 goals as an 18-year-old when he beat Detroit's Jimmy Howard on a wraparound at 18:47 of the second period of Wednesday night's game.

Skinner skated around the net and tucked the puck between Howard and the right post to give the Hurricanes a two-goal lead in a game they won 3-0 at the RBC Center.

The seventh pick in the 2010 Entry Draft became the first 18-year-old to score 30 times in a season since Sidney Crosby in 2005-06, and the seventh-youngest player ever to get 30.

Minnesota's Brian Bellows is the youngest player to reach 30 goals -- he was 18 years and 196 days old when he did it in 1982-83.  Crosby (18 years, 216 days) is the second-youngest, followed by L.A.'s Jimmy Carson (18 years, 244 days) in 1986-87, Bob Carpenter of the Washington Capitals (18 years, 247 days) in 1981-82, Detroit's Steve Yzerman (18 years, 272 days) in 1983-84 and Winnipeg's Dale Hawerchuk (18 years, 307 days) in 1981-82.

Vancouver's Trevor Linden also reached 30 goals as an 18-year-old in 1988-89; he got his 30th goal 10 days before he turned 19.
