The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to terms with their first-round draft pick, left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales on Wednesday.

Gonzales was a two-way player at Gonzaga, but was drafted as a pitcher. He finished with a record of 7-3, 2.80 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 17 appearances this season.

The 19th-overall pick also led the Bulldogs with a batting average of .311, adding two home runs and 26 RBI.

"It is still sinking in that we got Marco with our first pick," stated Cardinals director of scouting Dan Kantrovitz. "He is such a great fit for us and is somebody that I did not think would get to the 19th slot. He has thrown quite a few innings this year so we will take it slow and manage his workload."

The 2012 West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year posted a record of 26-7 with a 2.34 ERA during his collegiate career.
