Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - St. Louis Cardinals starter John Lackey was ejected in the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, apparently for arguing balls and strikes.

Home plate umpire Tom Hallion appeared to be reacting to something Lackey said from the mound after Hallion called a 2-1 changeup to Cincinnati's Brayan Pena a ball.

Hallion's voice was audible on the TV broadcast yelling at the right-hander. The ejection came with no outs and the score tied 2-2 and drew an argument from Cardinals manager Mike Matheny.

Lackey made his eighth start for the Cardinals since being acquired in a trade with Boston in July. Tyler Lyons replaced him on the mound.
