Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Vancouver Canucks have waived forward David Booth with the intent to buy out the remaining year of his contract.
The Canucks said once Booth clears waivers, the club will exercise its right to use a compliance buyout as allowed by the NHL's collective bargaining agreement.
Booth had one year remaining on a six-year, $25.5 million deal he signed with Florida before the 2009-10 season. The Canucks acquired him in an October 2011 trade.
The 29-year-old Detroit native parlayed a 31-goal season in 2008-09 into a big contract with the Panthers. He scored 23 goals in a full 82 games during the 2010-11 season with Florida, but has just 26 goals in 134 games since being acquired by the Canucks.
Booth notched just nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points in 66 games this past season. He has 113 goals and 218 points in 443 NHL games since making his debut with the Panthers during the 2006-07 season.
