Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty was suspended for three games without pay by the National Hockey League on Monday.

Pacioretty delivered an illegal hit to the head of Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang late in the third period of a 4-3 overtime Penguins victory. Though Letang suffered a broken nose on the play, there was no penalty called.

The 23-year-old will cough up $26,351.34 for his effort, which automatically goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

He will not be eligible to return until the Canadiens face the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 6.
