Mallorca, Spain – A goal from Jose Maria Callejon in the 83rd 1 comeback win for Real Madrid against Mallorca on Saturday at the Estadio Son Moix.
The home side was poised for an upset when Tomer Hemed put them in front in the 39th minute by heading home a cross from Gonzalo Castro.
Real came close to leveling the match just before the break when Sergio Ramos nodded a ball off the post, but it was the introduction of Gonzalo Higuain in the second half that sparked the comeback for the visitors.
The Argentina international took a pass from Mesut Ozil inside the penalty area and had his deflected effort beat goalkeeper Dudu Aouate to level the score.
Cristiano Ronaldo came within inches of putting Real into the lead with a thunderous strike from outside the area that came back off the crossbar.
But the winner arrived shortly after when Callejon finished off a chance at the near post to give Madrid its third successive win and move the club eight points clear of Barcelona, which faces Real Betis on Sunday.
Real Sociedad 1, Valencia 0
Valencia, Spain - Real Sociedad continued its good run of form on Saturday at the Mestalla as Antoine Griezmann's goal early in the second half was the difference in a 1-0 win over Valencia for the away side.
Aritz Aduriz almost put Los Che in front in the first half when his header struck the crossbar, but the hosts offered little more in attack and were punished in the 56th minute.
The initial effort from Griezmann was blocked, but it deflected right back to the forward, who beat goalkeeper Diego Alves on the rebound.
Valencia's defeat leaves the club in danger of falling further behind the top two teams in La Liga, while Sociedad extends its unbeaten streak to seven games, moving the club five points clear of the drop zone.
Sevilla 0, Espanyol 0
Seville, Spain - Sevilla's winless run reached four games on Saturday as the club was held to a 0-0 draw at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan by Espanyol.
The home side created the better opportunities in the first half but squandered some good chances in front of goal.
Espanyol did little to trouble Sevilla goalkeeper Javi Varas, and the hosts nearly claimed all three points in the final minutes when a shot from Jose Antonio Reyes narrowly sailed over the crossbar.
Rayo Vallecano 2, Granada 1
Granada, Spain - Rayo Vallecano recorded its second successive victory on Saturday, winning 2-1 at Granada courtesy of goals from Michu and Piti.
Vallecano halted a four-game losing streak last time out, and started well with Michu putting his team in front midway through the opening half.
Piti doubled the advantage early in the second half after being set up by Raul Tamudo, while Granada was only able to pull one goal back when Fran Rico scored on a volley three minutes from time.
Rayo Vallecano vaults six points clear of the drop zone with the win, leaving Granada three points above the bottom three.
Real Zaragoza 1, Getafe 1
Aragon, Spain - An own goal from Javier Paredes 11 minutes from time denied Real Zaragoza manager Manolo Jimenez a win on his home debut as his side had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Zaragoza came into the game on the bottom of the league and carrying a six- game losing streak. But the hosts seized the lead shortly before halftime when a corner kick from Luis Garcia was headed home by Maurizio Lanzaro.
However, the hosts were unable to hold onto all three points as a corner kick from Getafe's Pedro Leon was curled into the penalty area, where Paredes turned the ball into his own net.
