Bruce Peddie, who coached New Orleans' baseball team through an uncertain period in which the university applied with the NCAA to drop from Division I to Division III, has been fired after four years on the job.

Peddie's dismissal, announced Friday, comes shortly after UNO broke ground on a new $3 million infield grandstand slated to open next season. The rebuilt centerpiece of the Privateers' ballpark, along with a recent commitment to retain Division I athletics, were developments Peddie had awaited since taking over in 2010.

While uncertainty surrounded the program, recruiting and scheduling proved difficult. Peddie's teams went 40-161 combined.

Before taking over as head coach, Peddie was the recruiting coordinator for former coach Tom Walter, who took Wake Forest's head coaching job after the 2009 season.
