With running backs Montario Hardesty and Peyton Hillis banged up, the Cleveland Browns have signed Thomas Clayton for some extra depth at the position.

Hardesty left in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the 49ers with a torn calf muscle and could miss a few weeks. Hillis has been slowed by a hamstring injury which has kept him out of Cleveland's last two games.

Clayton, who will join Chris Ogbonnaya in the backfield until Hardesty or Hillis comes back healthy, played two games with the Browns last season and has seven career carries for 17 yards.

In addition, the Browns waived wide receiver Brian Robiskie.
