Browns ink WR Edwards

Berea, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Browns have signed wide receiver Armanti Edwards, the team announced Tuesday.

Edwards, released by Carolina earlier this month following a disappointing four-year stint with the Panthers, will likely be counted on to help bolster a return game that lost the dangerous Travis Benjamin to a season-ending torn ACL in Sunday's 23-17 loss at Kansas City.

Benjamin, who returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown against Buffalo in Week 5 and had an 86-yard kickoff return at Green Bay on Oct. 20, was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Edwards averaged 19.7 yards on kick returns and 7.0 yards on punt over 39 games with the Panthers, who drafted the two-time Walter Payton Award winner in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Cleveland also signed offensive tackle Reid Fragel off Cincinnati's practice squad. The Ohio State product was a seventh-round pick of the Bengals in April's draft.
