Englewood, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Denver Broncos released tight end Joel Dreessen on Tuesday after he failed his pre-training camp physical.

Dreessen underwent a third surgery on his troublesome left knee back in February. The Colorado native was entering the final season of a three-year contract he signed with the Broncos in 2012.

The 31-year-old caught a career-high 41 passes totaling 356 yards and scored five touchdowns in his first season in Denver, but had just seven receptions in 13 games last year as Julius Thomas took over as the team's No. 1 tight end.

Dreessen spent five seasons with the Houston Texans prior to joining the Broncos and has played in 120 career NFL games, recording 158 catches for 1,767 yards and 19 touchdowns.
