Munich, Germany ( - Germany defender Jerome Boateng has signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich that runs until 2018.

Boateng joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2011 and has gone on to make 66 appearances in the Bundesliga for last season's champions, while also establishing a place in the German national team.

"I am delighted. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in world football - to play here is not only fun but also an honor," Boateng said after signing his new contract. "I want to achieve a lot with this team in the years to come."

The 25-year-old's previous deal was set to expire in 2015, and the signing continues a trend of Bayern locking up its players for the long term after a new deal was reached with David Alaba earlier this month.

With those two signings, Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben are the only members of the team whose deals expire before 2016.
