The Toronto Blue Jays recalled pitcher Joel Carreno from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Carreno started against the Brewers on Wednesday and gave up five runs in three innings. On the season, Carreno is 0-2 with a 6.60 earned run average with the Blue Jays this season.

With Las Vegas, Carreno is 2-2 with a 6.20 ERA in 20 1/3 innings.

The team optioned infielder Yan Gomes to Las Vegas to make room for Carreno. Gomes hit .211 with three home runs in 38 at-bats with the Blue Jays this season.
