Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Less than 24 hours after their loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, the Buffalo Bills released punter Shawn Powell.

Powell was most likely let go due to his inconsistent play over the last two games. Against Baltimore and Cleveland he punted 16 times, but only had a net average of 30 yards.

In Thursday's 37-24 loss to the Browns, Travis Benjamin returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown and set a Cleveland franchise record for punt return yards in a game with 179.

Powell punted the ball 35 times this year and averaged 46.1 yards per punt.

The 24-year-old Powell punted in 13 games last year after the team released veteran Brian Moorman. In 2012, the Florida State product punted 65 times and averaged 44 yards per punt with a net average of 38.1 yards.
