Orchard Park, NY – Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season with an inflamed Achilles that has plagued him for the better part of two years.
Merriman finished the 2010 campaign on injured reserve due to an ailing right Achilles tendon, but appeared in the first five games for the surprising Bills this season. But his Achilles flared up and he missed his first game against the Giants in Week 6.
The Bills tried to bring Merriman back slowly. He participated in just 15 plays during the preseason and the hope was to steadily bring him back up to a full-scale regimen. But the inflamed Achilles resurfaced and never calmed down.
The three-time Pro-Bowl linebacker recorded just nine tackles and one sack this season. Merriman is under contract with Buffalo through the 2012 season.
