Saint Mary's announced Friday it has agreed to a year contract with head men's basketball coach Randy Bennett.

The new deal comes on the heels of a successful 10-year run that saw Bennett become the school's all-time wins leader (208) while leading the program to its first Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament (2010).

"Randy clearly embodies what Saint Mary's College is all about," said Saint Mary's athletics director Mark Orr. "He is, obviously, an excellent basketball coach with a track record of competitive success and he has led our program to unparalleled achievement."

Bennett guided the Gaels to their fourth straight 25-win season last year and an appearance in the NIT, the fifth postseason during his tenure.

"We've had great players and assistant coaches who have put a lot of effort into building the program to a level where we can maintain success and continue to build on it. We have great student-athletes, a supportive administration and enthusiastic student and community support for our program," Bennett said.

The season before Bennett was hired, Saint Mary's went 2-27 and was ranked 315th in the college RPI.
