The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed defensive end Wallace Gilberry, who would have become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday afternoon.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gilberry joined the Bengals as a free agent last September and finished third on the team with 6 1/2 sacks in 14 games. He added three fumble recoveries, returning one for a touchdown, and also forced a fumble.

"Gil came in and helped us right away last season," said Bengals defensive line coach Jay Hayes in a statement Tuesday. "He's an active guy with a nose for making plays. We're glad to have him back, and to get him this year in time for a full run in our offseason program."

Gilberry spent his first four NFL seasons with Kansas City and has 20 1/2 sacks in his career.
