Lisbon, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Benfica clinched its 33rd league title after notching a 2-0 win over last-place Olhanense through a second-half brace from Lima.
Benfica entered the weekend seven points clear of second-place Sporting Lisbon with three games to play. And despite Sporting's 1-0 victory against Belenenses, Benfica's triumph on Sunday was enough to keep the club seven points clear with two fixtures remaining.
Olhanense put up a fight in the first half and the two sides entered halftime level at 0-0.
But Lima netted the opener in the 57th minute when he was on hand to knock home the rebound from Nicolas Gaitan's shot, which was saved by goalkeeper Vid Belec.
Lima then doubled the lead three minutes later when he dashed down the right wing and drove a shot through the legs of Belec, who will be disappointed not to have made the save.
The win is Benfica's 11th win in succession while the club is unbeaten in its last 27 league matches after losing its opener, 2-1, to Maritimo in August.
Sporting's victory came courtesy of a 52nd-minute penalty kick from Adrien Silva before the club had to hold on for the final 10 minutes with 10 men after a red card to Marcos Rojo in the 80th.
FC Porto won the last three league titles, but the club will finish third this term after a 3-0 win over Rio Ave on Monday.
Also on Monday, Braga and Setubal played to a 1-1 draw with Eder opening the scoring for Braga after 12 minutes. However, Eduardo was sent off in the 25th for Braga, allowing Setubal to net the equalizer 10 minutes from time through Pedro Amorim.
Mario Rondon scored a hat trick as Nacional hammered Pacos Ferreira, 5-0, Maritimo downed Academica, 3-1, Gil Vicente and Estoril played to a 0-0 draw despite a 10th-minute red card for Estoril's Vagner Love, while Arouca edged Guimaraes, 3-2, with David Simao scoring from the penalty spot in stoppage time to break a 2-2 tie.
