Leverkusen, Germany – Bayer Leverkusen announced on Wednesday that midfielder Lars Bender has signed a contract extension that ties him to the club until 2017.
Bender, 22, has started 25 of Leverkusen's 26 matches in the Bundesliga this season, netting four goals.
He established himself as a key piece of the Leverkusen side last term, scoring three goals in 27 league appearances and has become an ever-present in the lineup this season.
Leverkusen is fifth in the German top flight with eight games remaining.
