Monchengladbach, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Bayern Munich's six-game winning streak in all competitions came to an end on Sunday as the club was held to a 0-0 draw at second-place Monchengladbach.
The hosts entered the day four points back of Bayern and were looking to make a statement with a strong performance on Sunday, while the Bavarians could have taken a commanding lead at the top of the league with three points.
Bayern controlled much of the first half and nearly took the lead in the 10th minute when David Alaba's shot was tipped onto the post by Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Robert Lewandowski then saw a deflected shot skip inches past the post for Bayern as the half came to a close.
But Monchengladbach raised its level of play in the second 45 minutes and Patrick Herrman brought down a deep ball and fired a shot on goal that Bayern netminder Manuel Neuer did well to tip past the post.
Neuer had to be sharp once more to keep out a well-taken free kick from Raffael, who also called the German goalkeeper into action later in the half.
In the end, Bayern will be pleased to have emerged with a point after surviving some good periods of pressure from Monchengladbach in the second half.
Sunday's other match saw Wolfsburg join Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim on 17 points after the club notched a 3-0 win over Mainz, which lost for the first time this season.
Naldo scored after 15 minutes for Wolfsburg, while Ivan Perisic and Daniel Caligiuri each added another goal after the break.
