Bayern Munich failed to return to the summit 2 defeat at Mainz.

Andreas Ivanschitz scored the lone goal of the first half for Mainz after being played in on goal by Nicolai Muller, while Daniel van Buyten provided the equalizer for Bayern early in the second half when he headed home a free kick from Toni Kroos.

Marco Caligiuri restored the lead 10 minutes later with a long-range effort that found the bottom-left corner of the net, and Niko Bungert added to the advantage when he nodded home a corner kick from Ivanschitz eight yards from goal.

Van Buyten scored on another set piece situation a few minutes later, once again from a Kroos free kick, but Mainz goalkeeper Christian Wetklo did well to make the lead hold up in the final 10 minutes.

He first produced a nice diving stop on David Alaba before Van Buyten missed the net from a good position.

A stoppage time save on Thomas Muller by Wetklo then secured the win, which is the second straight for Mainz following a nine-game winless streak.

Werder Bremen 2, Stuttgart 0

Bremen, Germany - Werder Bremen secured its third win in four games on Sunday at the Weserstadion as second-half goals from Aaron Hunt and Naldo handed the home side a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart.

Bremen suffered a 5-0 defeat to Monchengladbach last time out and was eager to erase the result with a good one on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Tim Wiese made a pair of good saves shortly before halftime to keep Bremen level, and Hunt opened the scoring just before the hour mark when he took a through ball from Clemens Fritz and rolled his shot between the legs of goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Naldo scored his first goal of the campaign from a well-taken free kick in the 67th minute to secure the win, which moves Bremen into fourth place.
