Barcelona, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes will miss six weeks of action after suffering a torn calf muscle, the Catalan club revealed on Wednesday.

Valdes replaced Iker Casillas at halftime of Spain's 1-0 defeat to South Africa in Johannesburg, but played only 13 minutes before suffering the injury to his right calf.

The 31-year-old underwent tests on his return to Spain on Wednesday, where the extent of the injury was revealed.

"The test taken on Wednesday confirmed that Victor Valdes has torn a muscle in the right calf. The approximate time he will be out is around six weeks," the club said in a statement.

Valdes joins Lionel Messi on the sidelines for Barcelona. Both players will miss the club's final four La Liga matches in 2013 against Granada, Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Getafe.

The defending La Liga champions are three points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of the table and are through to the knockout round of the Champions League.
