Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Duchene scored a goal and added an assist in the Colorado Avalanche's 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night.
Cody McLeod, Nick Holden, Tyson Barrie and Gabriel Landeskog each posted a goal in the win, while Jarome Iginla had two assists.
Semyon Varlamov made four saves in Colorado's second straight win after a season high-tying four-game losing skid. He did not play in the third period and gave way to Reto Berra, who made 11 saves to finish out the game.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Mark Arcobello scored for the Coyotes, who have lost four straight and six of their last seven games.
Mike McKenna stopped 29 shots in the loss.
"It's goaltending in hockey and anything can happen. You always have to be ready," said McKenna. "You just gotta get in front of the puck and I did not do that early tonight."
Colorado put a load of pressure on McKenna in the early going. Paul Carey sent a shot on net and McLeod followed with a pair of attempts from in front, the last of which snuck past McKenna to open the scoring 2:54 in.
The Avalanche tied a franchise record by scoring just nine seconds later when Iginla picked up the puck in the Coyotes zone, spun around at the left circle and whipped a pass over to Duchene for the goal.
"It was a good game tonight. The offense is rolling better right now and it was really good to get a power-play goal," said Duchene. "I thought we were so good offensively tonight that it really took care of our defense."
Arizona got on the board before the midway point of the first on Ekman- Larsson's slap shot from the left circle that beat Varlamov.
Joe Vitale went to the penalty box later in the first for delay of game and Colorado scored its first goal with the man-advantage in the last 12 games (0- for-32). Holden received a pass from Zach Redmond before slapping it past McKenna 18 seconds into the power play to restore the two-goal cushion.
Iginla made another nice pass with under 13 minutes left in the second to make it a 4-1 game. He played with the puck to the right of McKenna behind the net, then unleashed a pass to a crashing Barrie for the goal.
Arizona did not record a shot on net in the second, marking the first time in Colorado's franchise history that it did not allow a shot in a period.
Landeskog roofed the puck in on a rebound from Ryan O'Reilly to give Colorado a 5-1 edge with under three minutes to play in the middle period.
Arcobello scored on a tip-in 2:37 into the third to help the Coyotes cut the deficit to 5-2.
