Augsburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - A goal in each half from Andre Hahn helped Augsburg to a 2-1 home victory against Mainz, moving the club five points clear of the bottom three in the Bundesliga table.
Hahn found the net after 26 minutes when he took down a ball from Daniel Baier and drove a low shot underneath Mainz goalkeeper Christian Wetklo.
Wetklo appeared to foil a chance for Hahn in the 49th when the forward beat the offside trap and attempted to round the netminder, only for Wetklo to get a hand to the ball. However, Hahn stuck with the play and managed to squeeze his shot inside the post from a tight angle.
Halil Altintop almost made it 3-0 to Augsburg when he lobbed a shot over the head of Wetklo that hit the crossbar, while Mainz got back into the match just before the hour mark.
Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker fouled Mainz midfielder Sebastian Polter inside the penalty area, which allowed Maxim Choupo-Moting to score from the penalty spot, making it 2-1.
But Wetklo was sent off in the 88th when he fouled Arkadiusz Milik outside his penalty area, ending any hope of a late equalizer for Mainz.
The other match on Sunday saw Werder Bremen snatch a 3-2 win over Hannover to move into the top half of the league.
Bremen and Hannover traded two goals apiece in the opening 40 minutes, but it was a strike from Santiago Garcia five minutes from time for Bremen that separated the teams.
