New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics' Sonny Gray was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Gray compiled a 4-1 record over six starts with a 1.76 ERA, one shutout and 37 strikeouts through 41 innings, claiming his first career monthly award.
Others considered for the award were Gray's teammates, Jesse Chavez and Scott Kazmir, Felix Hernandez of the Mariners, Max Scherzer of the Tigers, Masahiro Tanaka of the Yankees and Mark Buehrle of the Blue Jays.
