The Oakland Athletics traded reliever Eric O'Flaherty to the New York Mets on Tuesday in exchange for cash or a player to be named later, the team announced:

O'Flaherty was designated for assignment over the weekend as the A's tweaked their 25-man roster.

The 30-year-old southpaw was signed by Oakland prior to the 2014 season while he was recovering from Tommy John surgery. O'Flaherty wound up making 46 appearances for the A's over the past two seasons, though his 2014 was better than the current season.

In 2015 with Oakland, O'Flaherty threw 21 1/3 innings of work, allowing 14 earned runs and a cumulative .312 opponents' batting average.

This is the second trade involving the A's and Mets in a week, coming after the first that sent reliever Tyler Clippard eastward in exchange for Single-A pitcher Casey Meisner.
