A's activate Colon
Oakland, CA – Oakland Athletics pitcher Bartolo Colon was activated off the 15-day disabled list after recovering from a groin strain.
Colon hadn't pitched since Aug. 13, but started Thursday's series-finale against Detroit, a 7-6 loss for the Athletics.
The 40-year-old right-hander was in line for his 15th win and worked five innings in his 400th career start, giving up just one run on seven hits in the no-decision. The Tigers, though, scored four times in the bottom of the ninth and won the game on Torii Hunter's three-run homer off Grant Balfour.
Colon had struggled in two starts prior to landing on the DL, surrendering 10 earned runs on 14 hits over just 6 2/3 innings. His record this season stands at 14-5 with a 2.94 ERA in 25 starts.
Right-hander Evan Scribner was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to open a roster spot. Scribner has no record with a 5.03 ERA in 13 relief appearances over four stints with the Athletics this season.
