Arsenal winger Andrei Arshavin has returned to former side Zenit St Petersburg on loan for the rest of the season, it was announced on Friday.

The 30-year-old Russia captain confirmed the move on his personal website, saying: "I have transferred to Zenit. On loan. The details tomorrow when you wake up."

Arshavin moved to Arsenal from Zenit in January 2009 for around $21 million, but after a few productive seasons in North London, he has fallen out of favor.

In 26 games in all competitions this season Arshavin has scored two goals, but he returns to Zenit where he spent eight seasons prior to his move and where he will expect to get regular playing time ahead of this summer's European Championships.

The Russian season will resume next weekend with Zenit facing CSKA Moscow.
