FIFA sponsor Anheuser-Busch says it is counting on football's ruling body to look into allegations of corruption that have been leveled over awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

The brewer, which is an official sponsor for the World Cup in Brazil, says in a statement to The Associated Press that it is "concerned about the situation" and is "monitoring developments."

British newspaper The Sunday Times has alleged that corrupt payments were made by former Asian football leader Mohamed bin Hammam to Asian and African officials to secure the 2022 tournament for Qatar.

Anheuser-Busch says "we expect FIFA to take all necessary steps to address the issue."

Other sponsors have also reacted to the allegations, with Adidas similarly expressing concern and Visa calling on FIFA to show strong ethics.
