Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced the club has picked up the option on general manager Jerry Dipoto's contract for the 2015 season.

The Orange County Register was the first to report the news on Friday, revealing that the contract which Dipoto signed in October of 2011 also contains another option in 2016 which has not been exercised.

"Obviously I'm very happy to get another crack at it, after this year," said Dipoto, who was informed around the time of the All-Star break. "But I'd rather focus, for the time being, on winning in 2014."

Los Angeles owns a five-game lead over Oakland in the AL West entering a weekend set with the Twins and boasts the best record in baseball at 84-55.

That's a marked turnaround from 2013, where the Halos finished in third place with an 78-84 record despite featuring one of the highest payrolls in baseball. Dipoto and manager Mike Scioscia were rumored to be on the proverbial hot seat amidst reported discord between them.

Dipoto heads into next season with both of his sidemen -- assistant GMs Matt Klentak and Scott Servais.
